n 1922, George Pope sold part of his land to his friend investment banker Walter Heller, who built his own mansion, named "Valhalla". In 1936 Walter divorced his wife Claire, but as both loved the estate they agreed to use it on alternate weekends for 20 years afterwards. After a series of ownership changes in the 1960s, it passed to the US Forest Service in 1971.
