Tapestry 2/10 in the Åsmund Fregdegjeva series by Ragna Breivik
- Title
- Tapestry 2/10 in the Åsmund Fregdegjeva series by Ragna Breivik
- Description
- Photo of a tapestry currently in the Bryggen Museum, inspired by the ballad of Åsmund Fregdegjeva found in approximately 90 variants. The ballad can be traced back to the Middle Ages, and may have originated from a saga. In this tapestry, Åsmund and his brothers leave the court of the Irish king and set sail for Trollebotten, the mountain under which trolls live and keep the kidnapped Irish princess. This is tapestry number two in a series of ten that were made by the Norwegian textile artist and political activist Ragna Breivik. Ragna dyed her wool herself and wove the ten tapestries over several years. The original design is based on Watercolours by her friend and himself celebrated artist Gerhard Munthe.
